The Catholic Christian faithful are to do penance through prayer, fasting, abstinence from meat, and alms-giving as integral to their observance of the season of Lent in preparation for Easter.
Abstinence from Meat: All those 14 years of age and older are to abstain on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent.
Fasting: All those ages 18-59 (completion of 59th year) are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Only one full meal is to be taken on fast days: two other small meals may be taken according to one's needs. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. This obligation does not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seriously affected.
Alms-giving: All are encouraged to be charitable to the needy.
Prayer: All are invited to spiritual renewal through special attention to individual and/or communal prayer.
Stations of the Cross:
Fridays during Lent at 5:00 p.m. (Spanish) and at 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.
The Penitential Celebration is a time when God's people gather, and together they listen to God's word, and reflect on their lives in the light of that Word. It is a time for contemplation, for being attentive to those things that matter during this busy time, things that we normally do not have the time to focus on. We take part in such services to learn how to live our lives more deeply grounded in the Gospel.
The Catholic Church has had this form since the reform of the Rite of Penance by the Second Vatican Council. The Service will be followed by the opportunity for individual confession.
Individual Confessions are also on Saturdays from 3:30-4:00 p.m. and on March 20, 2016 from 3:00-4:00 p.m.
