Social Justice and Charity

A basic moral test of any society is how our most vulnerable members are faring.

Risen Savior Social Justice and Charity efforts are rooted in Jesus’ ministry and Catholic Social Teaching. Social justice and charity are the ways we put our faith into action to serve the common good and bear witness to the Kingdom of God.

There are many ways to connect with justice and charity efforts at Risen Savior, including one-time volunteer opportunities, participation in one or more committees, and/or serving on the Social Justice and Outreach Commission.

  • What is Catholic Social Teaching? CST is often called one of the Catholic Church’s best-kept secrets. We hope the word gets out and it’s not secret anymore! The following document provides a basic look at the major themes of Catholic Social Teaching. CST informs our worldview and how we respond to the issues and needs of our times.
  • What’s the difference between charity and justice? Good question! Click here to learn more about how these two terms are different and why we call them the “two feet of love in action.” Or you can watch the video above!
  • Take this quiz to find out how much you know and have yet to learn about poverty in the United States.
  • Explore the USCCB’s page on Justice, Peace, and Human Development to see how these issues are integral to a life of faith.

Social Justice is a broad term that includes many more focused topics, such as racism, poverty, homelessness, environmental stewardship (care for creation), immigration, hunger, the rights of workers, prison reform, and more. The following are links that might serve as a starting point to learn more about some of these issues. If you’re looking for another topic, please fill out the survey at the bottom of the page, and our Social Justice & Adult Faith Formation Coordinator will respond!
