In John’s gospel there are several places where Jesus uses “I AM” phrases. These include “I am the resurrection and the life,” “I am the light of the world,” “I am the good shepherd.” In today’s gospel we hear Jesus say, “I am the gate for the sheep.”
In our hearing of the gospel proclaimed in our Eucharistic assembly Christ Jesus assures us that he is the gate. He is the way into life with God through the sacraments and the way out into the world to bring peace, healing, and hope for the future.
On this Fourth Sunday of Easter think about how Christ is this gate, this open door, for you. What form does this coming in and going out through Christ take in your life?
