Today we celebrate the solemnity of the two great saints Peter and Paul. Both of them were instruments of grace in the early Church. And they both had their weaknesses. Paul persecuted Christians in his early life. Peter famously denied Christ three times.
The lives of Peter and Paul are good examples of how God can work even with the weakness of human beings to do much good. Two years ago on this feast day, Pope Benedict XVI said, “The Church is not a community of the perfect, but a community of sinners, obliged to recognize their need for God’s love, their need to be purified through the cross of Jesus Christ.”
How do your weaknesses remind you of your need of God’s love and purifying grace?
