Today we hear about Solomon’s dream. In that mysterious state between restorative sleep and wakefulness he hears God saying, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” Wouldn’t each of us hope that God would ask the same of us! How would you respond? Would you ask for money? A happy family? Good health? World peace?
Solomon asks God for an understanding heart. The original Hebrew is literally “a hearing heart.” Solomon’s heart is in the right place. He desires to be a good and just king with the ability to distinguish right from wrong. He treasures the great value of wisdom. His heart’s desire is granted by God.
Imagine that you are dreaming or praying or reflecting and God says to you, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.” How will you respond? How deep will you go?
