I remember the day my father for the first time gave me the keys to the car to drive into town to pick up something from the store. It was the day after I got my drivers license. It was a thrill to drive the car by myself. There was also a sense of responsibility about the need to drive safely and responsibly.
Keys are mentioned in the Liturgy today. Eliakim is given the keys to the king’s palace because of his demonstrated trustworthiness and responsibility. Peter is given the keys to the Kingdom of heaven because he is able to articulate the true identity of Jesus. Keys are about providing access to something and also carry a sense of responsibility.
What “keys” of responsibility has God given you? In what ways does God see you as trustworthy of the responsibility?
