In 2013 Pope Francis published his letter titled The Joy of the Gospel. Here is how it begins: “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness, and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew.”
Joy permeates the Liturgy this third Sunday of Advent. “I rejoice heartily in the Lord” (Isaiah). “Rejoice always” (Paul). “My spirit rejoices in God my savior” (Mary’s song). Joy is born anew within us as we ponder the nearness of the Lord in our lives every day and as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus.
What helps to sustain that spirit of joy within you these days? How do you witness to the joy within you because of the nearness of Christ?
