Today we complete the Christmas season with the feast of the Baptism of the Lord. The gospel portrays Jesus coming up out of the Jordan River with the heavens opening, the Holy Spirit descending upon him, and the heavenly proclamation: “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
The first reading from the prophet Isaiah begins with the divine invitation “Come to the water!”
The door opens for us to imagine ourselves standing with Jesus in the river experiencing the same heaven-sent realities. This is how God sees us — as beloved sons and daughters.
In what ways do you feel beckoned to return again and again to the truth of how God sees us? When are you especially aware of God’s love for you?
