On this fifth Sunday of Lent we have another image to help us appreciate the impact of Jesus’ suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension: the grain of wheat that falls to the earth, is planted in the earth, and then grows to produce much fruit. The body of Jesus falls to the earth, is entombed in the earth, and rises to new life.
The good fruit of the dying and rising of Jesus is to draw everyone to himself — including us in the 21st century. While he walked on this earth he drew people to himself. It continues today after his death and resurrection.
As we draw closer to the celebration of the mystery of Jesus’ death and resurrection, spend some time thinking and praying about this question: How do you experience the risen Christ drawing you to himself?
