On this Sixth Sunday of Easter we hear proclaimed in our assembly as God’s people that “God is love.” This reading from the first letter of John is one of the most cherished in the Bible.
This biblical sense of love is not so much the wonderful feeling of love we can have for each other. Rather, this love is a deed, an action. It begins with God who loves us by sending the only Son for our salvation. One of the prayers at daily Mass last week called it the “amazing mystery of your loving kindness.” We are to love one another in the same way — not with warm feelings but in authentic actions of mercy and kindness.
When are you especially aware of this love of God for you? What helps you to love others in this way?
