The Liturgy of the Word today calls us to demonstrate our faith in two significant ways. The letter of James points out how our faith must be manifested in good works. We often speak of these as corporal works of mercy. It can also be expanded to include caring for the emotional and spiritual needs of others.
Another kind of demonstration of faith is described by the prophet Isaiah as setting our face like flint and by Jesus as taking up our cross. This entails freely chosen self-surrender to God who is Love; it is choosing to remain faithful to God no matter what kinds of suffering may come our way; it is choosing to witness to Christ by remaining faithful in the midst of the challenges of life.
Who are good examples of these demonstrations of faith for you? How are you called to demonstrate your faith?
