The gospel on this Fourth Sunday of Advent relates the story of the visit between Mary and Elizabeth. It is also the second of the joyful mysteries of the rosary. They must have had lots to talk about. The conception of their children happened in unusual circumstances. Elizabeth was advanced in years. Mary was overshadowed by the power of the Holy Spirit. During their visit they rejoiced that God had visited them with such good news.
During these days we experience many visits with family members and friends. We have lots to talk about in our lives — joyful things, sad things, extraordinary things, mundane things. As Mary and Elizabeth were so keenly aware of the hand of God at work in their lives, so may we marvel at God’s redeeming love manifested in each other.
Blessings of Christmas peace and joy to all of you as we celebrate these holy days!
