Many people and organizations speak of having an open door policy. There is a general sense of openness and welcoming to all who are interested. The Liturgy of the Word has this sense of openness to all people from the North, South, East, and West streaming to God and the Kingdom of God.
There is also a sense of a narrow door policy. Jesus says, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate.” Big egos prancing up to the door can be a problem. The Greek word translated strive is an athletic one. Think of the athletes competing in the Summer Olympics. The kind of striving Jesus expects is a focused effort that demands discipline, training, and growing in faith.
How is it for you? How do you see many people streaming to what is of God? What does entering through the narrow gate look like for you?
