“You have been enlightened by Christ. Walk always as children of the light and keep the flame of faith alive in your hearts.” These are words spoken to the newly baptized when their godparents present to them a candle lighted from the Easter candle. This baptismal ritual finds its origin in the Liturgy on this Fourth Sunday of Lent. In the gospel Jesus says, “I am the light of the world.” This light brings sight to the man born blind. St. Paul says, “Live as children of light.”
The season of Lent helps us to appreciate the kind of faith-seeing that is ours as baptized persons. This season also helps us to see how the Light of Christ is stronger than the darkness of spiritual blindness or sin. How is this Lenten season helping you to live in the Light of Christ?
