Today we hear very inviting words put on the lips of Jesus in Matthew’s gospel: “Come to me . . . I will give you rest.” It is the open and frequently spoken invitation to come to Christ, to be in his company, to relish his compassion and hope for the future. Today Jesus also uses the imagery of being yoked with him. We are not alone. He walks with us and shares the burden with us.
Coming to Christ is balanced with going in Christ’s name to bring hope and healing and peace to other people. We need both directions – to come into Christ’s company and to go and make his love known and felt.
In what ways do you hearken Jesus’ invitation to come to him? How is God inviting you to help bring others to Christ?
