This issue of the bulletin is for March 7 and March 14 – the Third and Fourth Sundays of Lent. On the Third Sunday of Lent we hear a reading from the Book of Exodus that lists the ten commandments. The Psalm follows this reading with the refrain, “Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.” This presents us an opportunity in the Lenten season to use the ten commandments as an examination of conscience. This focused reflection can help us to be sorry for our sins as well as to pay attention to the invitation to grow in love of God and love of our neighbor. What is the invitation for you?
On the Fourth Sunday of Lent we hear the marvelous message that God has given us the only begotten Son so that we might not perish but have eternal life. So not only do we have the ten commandments to guide us to everlasting life, but we also have the Risen Christ to lead us into this life of God that is lasting. Are there any ways in which you feel like you are perishing? Who in our community or society feel like they are perishing? How can the presence and action of Christ lead us to a fuller sense of life?
