May 25, 2014: The Divine Indwelling

May 20, 2014 By Website Admin

There are three terms we use to name our experience of God: transcendence (God’s greatness), immanence (God’s nearness), and the divine indwelling. Today’s gospel highlights the divine indwelling presence. Jesus promises the presence of the Holy Spirit who “will be in you.” He also says that “I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.”

This third form of God’s presence — the divine indwelling — is both wonderful and humbling. It is a truth we must both realize and respect in ourselves and in other believers. It prompts us to do Christ-like things.

How do you know God’s greatness? How do you know God’s nearness? How do you know the indwelling divine presence in yourself? In others?

May 18, 2014: Our Call Is To Love and Serve

May 13, 2014 By Website Admin

The Twelve couldn’t do it all. The Twelve apostles were attending to the needs of the growing community but they were being stretched too thin. It was brought to their attention that the Greek-speaking widows were being neglected in the daily distribution of resources. The community came up with a solution. Seven other people were selected and commissioned to help the Twelve.

Something similar is happening in our parish. We are growing. There are many needs, many opportunities to serve and help others in our community and beyond. The same people cannot do it all. The Community and Sharing Commission in our parish has put a lot of positive energy and enthusiasm in organizing a wonderful event after all our Masses this Sunday. It is called Explore Risen Savior: 101 Possibilities and Counting.

Be sure to take a few moments after Mass today to check it out. See the many opportunities to serve. Think about how it connects with the third part of our parish mission statement: “Our call is to love and serve.” Pay attention to what tugs at your heart.
