Our Call Is To Love And Serve
What: The Environmental Concerns Committee is collecting used tennis shoes/sneakers/gym shoes in honor of Earth Day. Bring in the pairs you no longer use and we’ll recycle them for you!
***We are NOT able to take any other type of shoe besides sneakers.***
When: April 22nd-April 23rd before and after Masses
Why: In the United States, 200 million pairs of shoes and sneakers end up in landfills each year. Since sneakers are manufactured with materials that are not biodegradable, they remain in landfills or are incinerated, which leads to toxic chemicals in our air and soil. The process of manufacturing sneakers produces large amounts of CO2 which contributes to the serious effects of climate change and global warming. Recycling and reusing sneakers keeps sneakers out of landfills, reduces the need for manufacturing new shoes and sneakers, and supports a growing circular economy (where we reuse and recycle products rather than putting them in landfills).
