April 19, 2015: The Advocacy of the Risen Christ
In the reading from the first letter of John today, Jesus is referred to as an Advocate [literally "Paraclete"] with the Father. It points us to Pentecost when the Holy Spirit is called Paraclete and Advocate. Both the Risen Christ and the Holy Spirit are constantly present to intercede for us.
The advocacy of Christ is highlighted in today's gospel with the words "it is I myself." We are shown that Christ is really present in our midst in the Eucharist, when our minds are opened to understand the Sacred Scriptures, and when the peace of Christ washes over us. This is great reassurance for us as we continue our journey of faith, hope, and love.
When are you especially aware of Christ in our midst? What helps you to know that Christ is by your side?
