Fr. Tom’s Reflections

May 31, 2015: Experiencing the Trinity

On this Sunday after Pentecost we always celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. Our first instinct is to think of the Trinity theologically -- Three Persons in one God. Very technical theological language is encoded in the preface to the Eucharistic Prayer today. In addressing the First Person of the Trinity we hear proclaimed: "For with your Only Begotten Son and the Holy Spirit you are one God, one Lord: not in the unity of a single person, but in a Trinity of one substance."

The Scripture readings today take another approach. They help us reflect on our experience of God as Trinity. We are reminded that God has created us, that Jesus is always with us as Emmanuel, and that the Holy Spirit leads us and guides us (like we pondered on Pentecost).

When are you reminded that you are a creature of God? When are you especially aware of the Lord Jesus being with you? How do you experience the guidance of the Holy Spirit?
