Lenten Guidelines 2020
The Catholic Christian faithful are to do penance through prayer, fasting, abstinence from meat, and almsgiving as an integral part of their observance of the season of Lent in preparation for Easter.
Abstinence from Meat—All those 14 years of age and older are to abstain on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent.
Fasting—All those ages 18-59 (completion of 59th year) are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Only one full meal is to be taken on fast days: two other small meals may be taken according to one’s needs. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. This obligation does not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seriously affected.
Almsgiving—All are encouraged to be charitable to the needy.
Prayer—All are invited to spiritual renewal through special attention to individual and/or communal prayer.
