Summer Read: The Gift of Years

June 1, 2022 By Grace Koleczek

Discussing Sister Joan Chittister’s The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully. Scroll down for registration form.

When: Wednesdays August 3rd through September 7 from 2-3:30pm. Come to as many as your schedule allows!

Where: Risen Savior Bays (except on Aug. 10th when we’ll meet in Resurrection Hall)

What: Join us as we discuss and reflect upon chapters from this book and share our experiences of the ‘gift of years’ and our faith.

Description of the book: Not only accepting but also celebrating getting old, this inspirational and illuminating book looks at the many facets of the aging process, from purposes and challenges to struggles and surprises. Central throughout is a call to cherish the blessing of aging as a natural part of life that is active, productive, and deeply rewarding. Perhaps the most important dimension revealed lies in the awareness that there is a purpose to aging and intention built into every stage of life. Chittister reflects on many key issues, including the temptation towards isolation, the need to stay involved, the importance of health and well-being, what happens when old relationships end or shift, the fear of tomorrow, and the mystery of forever. Readers are encouraged to surmount their fears of getting older and find beauty in aging well.

Obtaining the book. Participants may order their own books (we encourage you to order through a used book source, local store, or the library!). Orders through Risen Savior were due July 13th.

Hope and Solidarity from Our Sister Parish

December 8, 2020 By Grace Koleczek

Earlier this year in October, Risen Savior parishioner and long-time member and co-chair of the Sister Parish Committee, George Kohler, passed away. At the request of Risen Savior Staff, George’s wife, Karen, recorded the remembrance she gave at his funeral to share with our parish in the video below. We invite you to listen to the story of who George was and be filled with the hope this season of Advent inspires in us.

When Risen Savior celebrated George’s funeral in November, we were not the only church lifting him and his loved ones up in prayer. Our Sister Parish St. Rose of Lima (Gris Gris, Haiti) celebrated a special Mass for George at the very same time. The people of Gris Gris had touched George’s life in an incredible way, and he clearly touched theirs as well. The relationships George built with Fr. Fayant, pastor of St. Rose, and the people of Gris Gris embodied what it means to be in a sister parish relationship—one of family and walking together in solidarity. Across the miles, Fr. Fayant and St. Rose Parish gave George’s loved ones and our wider parish family the priceless gift of their presence, compassion, and an outpouring of support. May their generosity inspire hope in each of us this season!

360 Communities: Temporary Volunteers

August 31, 2020 By Grace Koleczek

360 Communities works tirelessly to provide holistic programming for members of our local community seeking services and support. Right now, 360 needs our help in order to do this! Both the Burnsville and Rosemount locations are in need of volunteers to help at the food shelves. Volunteers may be asked to help pre-pack orders, stock shelves and organize, clean, and process donations.

To learn more and sign up for a shift at the Burnsville location, click here. This resource center/food shelf is located at 501 State Hwy 13 #112, Burnsville, MN 55337.

To learn more and sign up for a shift at the Rosemount location, click here. This resource center/food shelf is located at 14521 Cimarron Ave., Rosemount, MN 55068.

360 Communities Needs Your Help

August 28, 2020 By Marianne Brass

Are you or someone you know looking for ways to serve in practical ways during these critical times?

Many of our regular volunteers have had to step back from volunteering due to COVID-19, which has created a need for new volunteers to help us to fill our shifts to pack and distribute food shelf orders through the drive up model that we are currently using. We have seen wonderful engagement from the community over the past few months but recently have had a hard time filling our shift needs.

This is a wonderful way for individuals to serve their community during this time.

Click here to sign up for Burnsville. (360 Communities, 501 State Hwy. 13, #112, Burnsville, MN 55337)

Click here to sign up for the Rosemount location. (Rosemount Food Shelf and Resource Center, 14521 Cimarron Ave. W., Rosemount, MN 55068)
