Earlier this year in October, Risen Savior parishioner and long-time member and co-chair of the Sister Parish Committee, George Kohler, passed away. At the request of Risen Savior Staff, George’s wife, Karen, recorded the remembrance she gave at his funeral to share with our parish in the video below. We invite you to listen to the story of who George was and be filled with the hope this season of Advent inspires in us.
When Risen Savior celebrated George’s funeral in November, we were not the only church lifting him and his loved ones up in prayer. Our Sister Parish St. Rose of Lima (Gris Gris, Haiti) celebrated a special Mass for George at the very same time. The people of Gris Gris had touched George’s life in an incredible way, and he clearly touched theirs as well. The relationships George built with Fr. Fayant, pastor of St. Rose, and the people of Gris Gris embodied what it means to be in a sister parish relationship—one of family and walking together in solidarity. Across the miles, Fr. Fayant and St. Rose Parish gave George’s loved ones and our wider parish family the priceless gift of their presence, compassion, and an outpouring of support. May their generosity inspire hope in each of us this season!
