Adult Faith Formation

June 7, 2022 By Grace Koleczek

Adult Faith Formation at Risen Savior is looking for people who feel nudged to share their gifts through the following ministries:

  • Hospitality at baptisms: this would involve setting up for infant baptisms before Mass, greeting families and their guests, & putting items away afterwards. Training and mentoring provided! Commitment is 3-4 times/year on Sundays when we have baptisms; typically during 9 or 11am masses. People who are gifted at making people feel welcomed and comfortable would be great fits for this role!
  • RCIA Sponsors: RCIA is the process through which adults receive sacraments of initiation into the Catholic church. Sponsors journey with their candidate through the process by attending RCIA sessions at least once/month and checking in with their candidate via phone, text, email, or in person as works for their relationship. They also attend the RCIA Rites throughout the year. We never know who will present themselves to be an RCIA candidate each year, so right now we are compiling a list of interested potential sponsors! The RCIA process typically runs Sept-Pentecost the following year. Sponsors must be fully initiated Catholics. People who enjoy forming meaningful relationships, sharing their faith, and mentoring others would be great fits here!
  • Baptism Catechists: this role would lead the baptism preparation class for parents and godparents. Training and mentorship provided. Commitment is 4-6 times/year on the first Monday/monthly from 7-8:30pm. Currently the class is on Zoom. People with gifts for teaching and facilitating small groups would be great fits!
  • RCIA Team: RCIA is the process through which adults receive sacraments of initiation into the Catholic church. They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it takes a village of disciples to mentor a person into the faith! Team members assist in facilitating the RCIA sessions; curriculum and lesson plans with training and mentorship provided. Team members should be fully initiated Catholics. Commitment will vary based on the response. Most likely will involve 1 Sunday/month September through Pentecost from 10-11:30am and 1x/month team meeting. People with gifts for teaching, facilitating, and who have a mature faith would be great fits!

If you are interested in exploring any of these roles, please contact Grace Koleczek at grace.koleczek@risensavior.org or 952-698-1724. If you know a friend who you think would be a good fit…encourage them to consider it!

Habitat for Humanity: Faith Builds

May 21, 2021 By Grace Koleczek

August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2022

This summer we once again partnered with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to help construct new homes in Chaska. The site we were building on is called the Faith Builds site because the volunteers each week come from various faith communities around the Twin Cities Metro! It is the same site of the project last year but we are now working on new homes in the cul-de-sac “Niskanen Circle.”

We are extremely grateful to everyone at Risen Savior who supported this partnership, whether by volunteering as part of the construction crew, meal team, food/beverage donor, prayer team, financial donor, and/or photography volunteer.

Here are just a few photos from our 2022 Build!

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity shared this video message with all those involved with the build we were a part of in August 2021. Thank you!

Last summer in July 2021, we welcomed Anne and Julia of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity for a presentation and discussion titled, “There’s no place like home!” The Transformational Power of Homeownership.

Some of the key learnings we took away included:

  • Habitat for Humanity was originally imagined as Koinonia Farm by a biblical scholar/farmer named Clarence Jordan in Georgia in 1942.
  • Twin Cities Habitat was first started by a Lutheran congregation in South Minneapolis in 1985.
  • Affordable, safe housing is linked to many other needs: quality education, stability, better health, access to transportation and jobs, and more! We heard one Habitat homeowner’s story of how her home is her “sanctuary.” It has meant family, community, security, and thriving together.
  • Habitat not only builds new homes but also purchases and rehabs homes, provides mortgages for clients to buy on the open market, helps clients make repairs so they can stay in their homes, does advocacy work, and more.
  • Historically because of racist policies and structures in place, affordable housing has been denied to People of Color. Despite many progressive social programs, Minnesota is one of the worst states for racial disparities in housing. The experience of searching for and securing housing for a Person of Color is much harder than for whites.
  • Habitat has extensive financial and homeowner coaching for their clients, which ensure that their homeowners are ready for the challenge of owning a home! They learn skills for financial planning, home repair, and being part of a neighborhood. Habitat families receive post-purchasing support as well.

Prison Ministry: At-Home Video Project Team

December 10, 2020 By Grace Koleczek

Our brothers and sisters “on the inside” (those who are currently incarcerated) are in need of connection and spiritual nourishment.

Their lives, like each of ours, have been affected by COVID-19 with restrictions on visitors and programming as well as fear of contracting the virus while in an enclosed area. Risen Savior’s Prison Ministry is working with Twin Cities Prison Ministry to produce 30-Minute Weekly Meditation Videos that get sent to the Minnesota Department of Corrections Facilities for distribution to those on the inside. The hope is for a variety of people to participate so that those on the inside see they are supported by many on the outside, in our communities. This is something you can do from home!

“I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.”

Matthew 25:36

Thanks to the generosity of the Jesuit Restorative Justice Initiative and Fr. Miguel Kennedy and Rob Garcia, Twin Cities Prison Ministry is using their texts from their 4-hour retreat programs in California prisons to create weekly 30-minute videos based on the Gospel reading each week. Here is an example of one of the videos the TCPM team created:

Commitment as a Risen Savior Volunteer: It can require as little as 10 minutes to film a reading one time, or longer if you are able to create music or help process the DVDS. A script is provided for all recordings; you are not asked to create you own content! You’ll receive instructions no matter what you sign up for! You do need access to a device with a camera/microphone (like an iPhone or computer with a webcam/microphone) and access to internet.

Interested in signing up or learning more? Fill out the form below or reach out to Grace Koleczek, grace.koleczek@risensavior.org, (952) 698-1724. She will put you in touch with our lead volunteer for this project.
