Food Shelf / “Food on the First”

October 10, 2019 By Website Admin

Click here for a flyer of the most-needed items at the food shelf!

We feed the hungry in our midst by supporting 360 Communities’ (formerly the Community Action Council) food shelf services. Food on the First, our largest collection, happens the first weekend of every month. The Knights of Columbus bring our donations to 360 Communities, and each month we donate around 1,000 pounds of food!

FOOD ON THE FIRST: As a parish community, we make a special effort to collect food the first weekend of every month. Here is a list of the most needed/requested items:

Non-Perishable Items:

  • Cereal (hot and cold)
  • Pancake Mix & Syrup
  • Peanut Butter & Jelly
  • Canned meat (Tuna and Canned Chicken)
  • Pasta: white or whole wheat
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Rice: brown or white
  • Beans: black, pinto
  • Flour
  • Sugar: Brown, white, powder
  • Whole grain snack crackers
  • Granola/cereal bars
  • Canned fruit
  • Canned vegetables
  • Coffee/Tea
  • Vegetable and olive oils
  • 100% Juice
  • Soups
  • Condiments (Ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, salsa)

Hygiene & Household Items:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Dish soap
  • Paper products (toilet paper, paper towels)
  • Personal care products (feminine hygiene products, tooth paste, body wash, shampoo, deodorant)
  • Disposable diapers (all sizes)

Additional Items:

  • *Gift cards to grocery stores
  • *Cash donations

Food is accepted at our parish every week, as are monetary donations and grocery store gift cards! Please label monetary donations “Food Shelf” so it goes to this outreach effort.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: We are looking for new volunteers to help transport the food we collect at church to the Food Shelf, typically on a Monday morning.  Please contact Grace Koleczek, grace.koleczek@risensavior.org, (952) 698-1724, or fill out the interest form at the bottom of this page.

360 Communities Emergency Food Shelves

Providing Immediate Aid and Connecting Individuals and Families with Resources to Help Them on their Journey to Self-Sustained Success

Our network of five food shelves provides immediate food and resources to individuals and families to bridge them through difficult times and help them reach self-sufficiency. We engage our food shelf customers to provide workable solutions that will stabilize them and prevent future crises. Each year, about 10,000 people benefit from this vital service.

360 Communities’ food shelves will provide documents in alternate formats such as large print or on computer disk upon request in order to serve people with disabilities. Persons with disabilities may also contact our food shelves using the Minnesota Relay Service by dialing 1.800.627.3529.

360 Communities Food Shelf Locations

In addition to being able to donate at Risen Savior, you can bring your donations directly to these locations if you prefer. All client information is gathered through our neighborhood offices. Call us at 952.985.5300 for more information.
