Prayers of the Faithful August 8 & 9, 2020
Presider:
Let us pray to be open to God’s call, however it comes to us.
Lector:
- For the Church: that we may recognize God’s presence in both the extraordinary moments and in the quiet ordinary events of our lives, we pray:
- For all who are experiencing the storms of daily life: that they may keep their eyes and attention on Jesus who strengthens us and calms our chaos, we pray:
- For greater civility in public discourses: that all political leaders may show respect for their opponents, express their ideas and concerns thoughtfully, and work to promote the common good of society, we pray:
- For all who are recovering from hurricanes, floods, or other disasters – especially those effected by the massive explosion in Beirut this past week: that God will give them courage, ease their pain, and touch the hearts of many to assist them, we pray:
- For the people of Japan and the United States as we remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki on the solemn 75th anniversary of the use of nuclear weapons on these cities, that we may be united in upholding human rights and peace in our world, we pray:
- For those who are ill and have asked for our prayers. May they find comfort in the healing touch of God and by the loving care of family and friends, we pray:
- For all who have died, especially Jim Kelly. May all who have died be forever held in the loving arms of God, we pray:
Presider:
Gracious God, you have loved your people unconditionally and called us in countless and surprising ways. Open our eyes and ears, hearts and minds to the gifts you have prepared for us. We ask this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.
