Year One Confirmation Day Retreat

As part of the Confirmation preparation process all youth who are in the Year One Confirmation program are required to attend this 5 hour retreat. It is an opportunity to explore some aspects of our faith and Confirmation on a little bit deeper level, build more community among the youth, and prepare them for the full weekend retreat that takes place in Year 2.

The retreat does not cost participants any additional money as we have included it in the fees for Confirmation Year 1.

While we don't need to collect payment and all Year One participants are required to attend it is still required that you complete and turn in a registration/release form by January 13 and that you also have completed and turned in an Annual Medical Release form for the 2018-2019 program year.

Details of the Retreat

Date: Saturday, February 2, 2019

Location: Risen Savior

Check-In Time: Check in will start at 9:45 am at Risen Savior.

Start Time: 10:00 am

End Time: 3:00 pm

Registration Deadline: January 13, 2019.

Lunch: Lunch will be provided. If your child has special dietary needs or allergies please make sure to note that on the Annual Medical Release Form. We encourage you to send a lunch along with your child if you are unsure about whether the food we serve will comply with any dietary restrictions your child may have. We have plenty of space in our fridge for lunches and the kids can use our microwave if needed as well.

Times: Check-In is at 6:00 pm on that Friday and we return to Risen Savior at 1:30 pm on Sunday.

Registration Deadline: November 4, 2018

Cost: The cost is paid as part of your Year 2 Confirmation fees. No additional payment is needed.

Who: All youth in the Year 2 Confirmation Classes (grades 10-12.)

Location: Camp Courage in Maple Lake, MN.

Transportation: We will have bus transportation to and from the retreat facility.

How To Register For The Retreat?

There are two forms that are required to be turned in to complete your registration for the retreat. The first form is a Annual Medical Release that is filled out one time per school year and is kept on file for your child. This form gives us important information we need to know about you (or your child) to properly care for your child and to seek medical attention if needed while your child is at a Risen Savior Youth Ministry sponsored event. The second form is the actual permission slip and release giving your child permission to attend this specific event.

These forms should be completed and returned to the Church Office no later than November 4, 2018. If your child does not have the forms turned in, all information completed, and all signature fields signed they will not be allowed to attend the retreat.

What To Bring

We will update this page with a detailed list of what to bring in the middle of November. We will also email you the list of what to bring a week before the retreat.

Communications Prior To The Retreat

If you included an email address on the Annual Medical Release Form we will email you an acknowledgment that we received your child's Retreat Registration and Medical Release. If you only turn in one of the forms you will not get an ackowledgement of receiving the registration until both forms are turned in.

If you are missing any signatures or have missing info on either form we will email you telling you what is missing and will ask that you stop by the Church Office to complete the forms. The Church Office is open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday-Friday and we recognize this may not be convenient for those who work daytime hours. To help avoid the need to stop in and finish completing the forms please read through them carefully and fully complete them before turning them in.

We will email all parent's and participants a reminder email about details for check-in and pick-up, a packing list, and any other pertinent info the week of November 19, 2018.

Will There Be Mass During The Retreat

Yes! Fr. Tom will be joining us on Saturday evening to celebrate Mass with us!

What Do We Do If There Is A Conflict With Our Schedule?

We realize that keeping track of everyone's schedules is a very difficult task for parents. We also have a great deal of compassion and understanding for all of the obligations parent's and kids are asked to keep. We realize it is not easy getting time off from jobs, missing important games, practices, performances, or making sure your child has enough time to get assignments done on time.

We also encourage you to tell any coaches, teachers, employers, directors, or other leaders of activities your child may be part of as soon as possible, preferably even right now. The more advance notice they are given about upcoming absences for your child the more forgiving they tend to be. Yes we know not all of them are and we've heard a lot of unfortunate stories over the years, if you're dealing with one of these situations we feel for you.

After saying all of the above it is important for us to be clear and to make sure you know that attending this retreat is still mandatory and is a requirement for preparing for Confirmation. Please make every possible effort to see to it that your child fully attends this retreat.

If for some reason your child does not attend the retreat there will be no refund given for the retreat fee portion of Year 2 Confirmation. Retreats are planned, budgeted, and contracts are signed for facilities, food, and transportation based on the number of Year 2 Confirmation students there are.

Questions?

If you have a question specifically about the retreat or anything related to the retreat please email travis.wyman@risensavior.org.

If you have questions about Confirmation in general please email raeann.konkol@risensavior.org.

Adult Leaders

There will be between 4-6 adult leaders on this mission trip. We are always welcoming new adults to help with our mission trips. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested please email travis.wyman@risensavior.org.

About The Work We'll Be Doing

In Chicago, we spend most of our time on the city’s south side, working in the Bridgeport neighborhood and housing near Canaryville. Your group can help to meet the needs of Chicago’s people by partnering with local ministries working with children, the elderly, and those who are homeless. You may also have the opportunity to serve at a food pantry, children’s organization or at Eden’s Place — an outdoor educational garden.

Partner with local organizations to meet ongoing needs in the community. During the week, students may serve at community gardens, with a food distribution center, in a children’s program or through interior painting projects for the elderly.

Expectations Prior to the Trip

Youth are expected to be active in faith growing activities as they prepare for the mission trip. This includes attending Sanctuary regularly to grow as a community.

Transportation & Housing

We will make the trip by rental vans and will be staying at a school or church during the week & at a hotel the last night of the trip.

Evening Activities and Outings

In the evenings, learn from local friends about the community, experience a taste of downtown Chicago, and enjoy a community cookout. On the way home we’ll stay someplace fun…TBD.

No, space is reserved on the full application is turned in and the deposit paid. If there is a financial burden, contact Travis and arrangements can be made.

Fundraisers

There will be several fundraisers available to help youth pay for their mission trip. Most people who make a decent effort can pay for their entire trip by fundraising.

Flower Sales

We hold an annual flower sale the first two weekends in May. All profits go towards the mission trip and youth get credit for shifts worked. Dates are May 5-6 and 12-13.

Kwik Trip Gift Cards

Kids are encouraged to sell Kwik Trip gift cards to friends, neighbors, family, or coworkers of their parents. Cards are sold at face value but we receive 5% of the each cards value.

Kwik Trip Car Wash Cards

Kids can sell car wash cards to friends, family, or others and make about $15 per card sold. Cards are sold for $36 and include 5 Ultimate Car Washes.

Stock in Our Youth

Youth can invite people to invest in the mission trip. We use all proceeds from these donation investments to lower the cost of the mission trip for the youths.

Forms

Deposits and Payment Schedule - New This Year

In an effort to reduce the number of people needing to pay large sums of money right before the trip we are implementing a new payment schedule for all participants of the mission trip. The amount you will pay for a deposit will vary based on when you register...the earlier you register the less you'll pay for your deposit and each month thereafter. Monthly payments will be made automatically by credit card on the 10th of each month with the final payment coming on June 10, 2019.

You will be eligible to receive full credit (in the form of a refund) for fundraising your child does up to $700. Once your child has fundraised/paid their full amount we will stop your monthly payments for you.

So let’s say you end up paying the full $700 but your child turned in $200 of stock fundraising money late. In that case we would send you a check for $200.

Let’s try another scenario. Your child turns in $200 of stock fundraising money at the April 8th meeting. We credit him for the $200 in donations and then on April 10th your monthly payment of $100 goes through. At this point we would cancel your future payments because you would have fundraised $200 worth and made monthly payments and your deposit totaling $500 for a total of $700 which is the total cost of the trip.

The earliest registration deposit is only $25 with a monthly payment of $75.

Please note that deposits are non-refundable. After January 10th all payments made are non-refundable. After April 1, 2019 you are responsible for the entire $700 cost of the trip regardless of any reason you may withdraw.

Pre-Registration

You must register by October 9, 2018.
Your deposit will be $25.
Your monthly payment will be $75 and the first monthly payment will be made on October 10, 2018.

Super Early-Bird Registration

You must register by November 9, 2018.
Your deposit will be $50.
Your monthly payment will be $82 and the first monthly payment will be made on November 10, 2018.

Early-Bird Registration

You must register by December 9, 2018.
Your deposit will be $50.
Your monthly payment will be $93 and the first monthly payment will be made on December 10, 2018.

Regular Registration

We anticipate filling our trip by this time. We will do our best to add spaces as needed but will only do so after receiving confirmed registrations. If we can not add you to the trip you will get a refund for your deposit paid.
You must register by January 9, 2019.
Your deposit will be $100.
Your monthly payment will be $100 and the first monthly payment will be made on January 10, 2019.

Late Registration

Spaces will most likely be filled by this time but if there is space available this is what the payment schedule will be.
You must register by February 9, 2019.
Your deposit will be $200.
Your monthly payment will be $100 and the first monthly payment will be made on Feb. 10, 2019.

2018 Spring Retreat

Spring Retreat Details

The Spring Retreat Has Been Cancelled Due To The Impacts of the Weather On Our Programming

Dates: April 20-22, 2018

Cost: $175 ($50 Deposit)

Where: Camp Courage, Maple Lake, MN

Who: 6-12th Graders

What we'll be doing: There will be lots of fun and games on the retreat this year. In addition we will be having three discussion groups about our faith theme for the weekend, an outdoor interactive faith processing activity, a full morning of team building led by camp staff, as well as Mass with Fr. Tom. The kids will have lots of free time to enjoy the camp facilities and to bond with new friends.

Transportation: We will be taking either a school bus with a trailer or a combination of rental vans and private vehicles up to camp. The method of transportation will depend on how many people end up coming on the retreat. We will not be stopping on the way to or from camp for food.

Friends?: Yes absolutely!! Invite your friends to come! The more the merrier in our minds. They don't have to go to Risen Savior or any other church for that matter. We think they'll have a great time and will learn about what we believe in a very relaxed, nonjudgmental environment.

Forms: Yup there are of course some forms to fill out. Each person going must have an Annual Medical Release on file with us at the church. We only require this form once per year though so if you have filled it out already then you don't need it again. The other form that is needed can be completed by turning in this printed form. You can pay the deposit online or with a check.

These forms should be completed and returned to the Church Office no later than November 5, 2017.

If you included an email address on the Annual Medical Release Form we will email you an acknowledgment that we received your child's Retreat Registration and Medical Release forms within a week of receiving it.

We will email all parent's and participants a reminder email about details for check-in and pick-up, a packing list, and any other pertinent info the week of November 20, 2017.

We've picked two retreat dates that we feel best avoid as many big obligations as possible. We know we couldn't avoid all of them and there's probably commitments we couldn't anticipate even if we tried to but like you we did the best we could with the information and constraints that we have.

We picked dates that didn't conflict with ACT testing, major testing periods (such as right before finals), we tried to avoid end of sport season time periods, long weekends (due to sports tournaments and family vacations), and well known concerts or plays. If neither of these dates don't work for your family we apologize, there weren't a lot of other weekends to choose from after accounting for the above named limitations.

We encourage you to choose to attend the retreat that has the least amount of conflicts for your child.

After saying all of the above it is important for us to be clear and to make sure you know that attending one of these two retreats is still mandatory and is a requirement for preparing for Confirmation. Please make every possible effort to see to it that your child fully attends one of these two retreats. If there's any chance something could come up during the February retreat dates make sure your child attends the December retreat.

If for some reason your child does not attend one of these two retreats there will be no refund given for the retreat fee portion of Year 2 Confirmation.

Spring Retreat

Spring Retreat Details

Dates: April 21-23, 2017

Cost: $175 ($50 Deposit)

Where: Camp Courage, Maple Lake, MN

Who: 6-12th Graders

Middle Schoolers: Come enjoy the full retreat experience, get lots of free time, be in middle school specific small groups, and just have a ton of fun.

High Schoolers: Help plan and put on the skits throughout the weekend, help lead goofy games and stunts, help prepare and serve meals, get some quality free time, and participate in high school specific small groups.

Transportation: We will be taking a school bus with a trailer up to camp. All high school and middle school youth will be riding the same bus and leave and arrive at the same time. We will be stopping on the way to and from camp for food.

The other form that is needed can be completed either by registering right here online or by turning in this printed form and paying by check.

Adult Leaders

There will be between 5-7 adult leaders on this mission trip. We are always welcoming new adults to help with our mission trips. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested please email travis.wyman@risensavior.org.

About The Work We'll Be Doing

Serve through painting, cleaning, yard work or other simple work projects. Plan and facilitate sports-based programming for community youth. Plan and lead kids programming for children in the community, including Bible lessons, games, crafts and reading. Most students will serve at each service site during part of the week. Those who serve with the sports program will remain all week.

In the evenings, you will experience a variety of cultural sites including eating a meal with community members, visiting the battle of Little Big Horn, and others. On the way home we’ll stay near Mount Rushmore and will visit fun tourist sites in that area.
