Lenten Guidelines 2025

The Catholic Christian faithful  are  to do penance  through prayer, fasting, abstinence from meat, and almsgiving as an integral part of their observance of the season of Lent in preparation for Easter.

Abstinence from Meat—All those 14 years of age and older are to abstain on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all Fridays during Lent.

  • Fasting—All those ages 18-59 (completion of 59th year) are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Only one full meal is to be taken on fast days: two other small meals may be taken according to one’s needs. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. This obligation does not apply to those whose health or ability to work would be seriously affected.
  • Almsgiving—All are encouraged to be charitable to the needy.
  • Prayer—All are invited to spiritual renewal through special attention to individual and/or communal prayer.

Stations of the Cross during Lent:

  • Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m. with the Anti-Human Trafficking Committee. These Stations of the Cross are geared toward victims of human trafficking and are open to all.
  • Thursday, March 20, 2025, 5:30 p.m., Care for Creation Stations of the Cross
  • Fridays at 7:00 p.m. in English
  • Fridays at 5:00 p.m. in Spanish

Lenten Penance Service, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.

The Penitential Celebration is a time when God’s people gather, and together they listen to God’s word and reflect on their lives in the light of that Word. It is a time for contemplation, for being attentive to those things that matter during this busy time, things that we normally do not take the time to focus on.

We take part in such services to learn how to live our lives more deeply grounded in the Gospel. The Catholic Church has had this form since the reform of the Rite of Penance by the Second Vatican Council.

This Penance Service will be followed by the opportunity for individual confession.

Weekly Confessions: Saturdays from 2:00-3:30 p.m.

Extended Confession times on Holy Saturday, April 19:

  • 12:00-2:00 p.m., Fr. Matthew Malek
  • 2:00-4:00 p.m., Fr. Mario Castagnola

Easter Flowers

The ‘Special Offering for Easter Flowers’ envelopes are now available on the back table of the church. Make a donation in memory of loved ones and help provide flowers for the altar and décor for the Risen Savior Easter environment. Flower donation envelopes must be received at the parish office or in the offering basket no later than Monday, April 14, 2025. Names will be published in the Easter bulletin.
