Prayers of the Faithful August 22 & 23, 2020

Presider: As a community of believers, let us pray for our needs and those of the whole world.

Lector:

  • For the Church: that we may boldly profess Jesus as Lord and help others to come to know and follow him, we pray:
  • For Pope Francis, successor to St. Peter: that the Holy Spirit will guide him in proclaiming the Good News, promoting unity in the Church, and inspiring us to greater love and service, we pray:
  • For all who exercise authority whether in religion, business, education, or government: that they may recognize God as the source of all authority and use their power for promoting justice and the common good, we pray:
  • For greater stewardship of the earth: that our hearts may be moved as we behold the wondrous work of God in nature and that we may care for it so that future generations may see God’s work, we pray:
  • For an end to the pandemic: that God will deliver the human race from the coronavirus, heal those who are ill, and inspire those who are developing cures or vaccines, we pray:
  • For those who are ill and have asked for our prayers (including,) May they find comfort in the healing touch of God and by the loving care of family and friends, we pray:
  • Today we pray for our beloved dead, including Edith Stapleton, Thomas Blessing, Adam Donahue, Ken Gaseor, Kara Oettinger, Conrad Galles, and Marjorie Carlson. May they be forever held in the loving arms of God, we pray:

Presider:

God of salvation, you call us to be the community of the church. Hear our prayers that as we share now in the identity and mission of Christ we might one day share in his risen life. We ask this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen
