Prayers of the Faithful for November 3 & 4, 2018

October 28, 2018 By Website Admin

Presider:   Let us pray to God, the Father of compassion and author of love.

Lector:

For the Church, that we may learn to love God and others so that the reign of God may draw near, we pray:

For all who are seeking God, that they may enter into a deep and loving relationship with God and know that they are a beloved child of God, we pray:

For love of neighbor: that the Spirit will guide and inspire us as we strive to love our neighbors as ourselves, particularly those with whom we find it hard to relate, we pray:

For faithful citizenship, that the Spirit will guide us in voting and give us insight into the candidates and issues on the ballot, we pray:

For all who are grieving: that God will wipe away their tears and console them with God’s presence, we pray:

For those who are ill and have asked for our prayers. May they find comfort in the healing touch of God and by the loving care of family and friends, we pray:

For those who have died, that God will fill them with life and give consolation and peace to those who grieve them, we pray:

Presider:

Loving God, give us openness to your grace so that we may truly hear and listen to your word. Make of us your faithful servants and fill our hearts with your strength. We ask this in the name of Jesus, your Son. Amen

Prayers of the Faithful for October 27 & 28, 2018

October 26, 2018 By Website Admin

Presider:

God hears the prayers of those who cry in faith for their needs. With courage we make our needs known.

Lector:

For all members of the church, may their faith draw them confidently to Jesus, we pray:

For all who are searching for God: that their eyes and hearts may be opened to the many manifestations of God’s love for them, we pray:

For all who are blinded by fear and prejudice: that God will enlighten their hearts and help them recognize the value and dignity of each person, we pray:

For greater trust in times of difficulty:  that we may be sustained by God’s promise to be with us always, to console us and to lead us home, we pray:

For each of us gathered here, that we may hear Jesus’ call to serve each other and our community with our gifts of time, talent, and treasure, we pray:

For those who are ill and have asked for our prayers, including, Diane Sparrow and Bob Zwaschka. May all who suffer be healed by God’s loving touch and by the prayers of this community, we pray:

For those who have died, especially, Gene Hoy the husband of Nancy Hoy; James Hamilton, the husband of Carolyn Hamilton; and for those who mourn the death of a loved one. May they be comforted by God’s unending love, we pray:

 Presider:

Gracious God, you hear the prayers of those who cry out to you: in our need may we have confidence that our prayers are heard and answered. We pray through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

October 28, 2018: There is Seeing and There is Seeing

October 25, 2018 By Website Admin

Throughout the gospels various questions are put on the lips of Jesus. They include, “What are you looking for?” and “Who do you say that I am?” In today’s gospel we hear another one: “What do you want me to do for you?” The question is asked of Bartimaeus, who is blind. At first glance it would seem that the response would be quite obvious. Bartimaeus wants to be able to physically see again. And indeed Jesus heals him of his physical blindness.

But there is another level of meaning happening in this encounter. The physical sight granted to Bartimaeus symbolizes the insight necessary for any follower of Christ. Jesus says, “Go your way, your faith has saved you.” The gift of faith helps all of us to “see” and experience the healing and saving way that Christ is toward us all the time. Imagine that Christ is asking you this important question. In the context of faith, how would you respond?
